"George" is, in reality, a 24-year-old named Brayden who lives in his mother's basement in a town you've never heard of. He has the work ethic of damp cardboard and the moral compass of a glove compartment.

A few years ago, Brayden discovered AI image generators. He could have used this technology for anything — art, design, helping a non-profit, illustrating a children's book, literally any of a thousand options that don't actively make the world worse. Instead, he decided his calling was to target lonely elderly men on Facebook with fake photos of a kindly grandfather "shutting down his workshop after 38 years." Brayden has never operated a sewing machine. Brayden has never finished a book.

He buys caps in bulk from AliExpress for roughly $2.80 a unit, marks them up 1,400%, and ships them — when he ships them at all — in plain envelopes from a fulfillment center he has never visited. Roughly half of his "customers" receive nothing. The rest receive a scratchy knockoff that smells faintly of industrial solvent and falls apart in the wash.

This is not Brayden's first store. Before George's Caps there was Henry's Caps. Before that, Old Tom's Knives. Before that, Wilbur's Hand-Carved Birdhouses. Each one collapsed under chargebacks before Brayden could be bothered to fill the orders. He will do this again. He will keep doing this for as long as Stripe and Shopify let him, which is depressingly longer than you'd think.
